The Company
Costmine Intelligence is the mine assets, costs and valuation research business of Glacier Media. Costmine produces an array of proprietary data, models and analytical tools for all stakeholders in the mining industry. Mining industry professionals use our products to screen and filter global mine properties, estimate mine costs and use our databases to benchmark detailed mine cost elements. We are based in Spokane, Vancouver and Toronto.
Costmine Intelligence is working on several exciting new data, research and modelling initiatives that will grow our business and we are looking for research analysts to join our experienced team.
Role: Principal Geologist
We are recruiting a principal geologist with experience in mining and industry analysis to join our team of subject matter experts. A geology or mining engineering background is required, and we encourage candidates with any background in mining data and analysis to apply. This is an exciting role that will offer exposure to all facets of our asset intelligence, mine cost estimating, data and research business and while taking a leading role adding value to our proprietary data.
Main responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities for this position include the following:
Content development
- Weekly/monthly insightful content delivery
- Short and medium length Insights
- Event driven and original themes
- Drill results, M&A commentary, data insights
Asset Curation
- Set criteria and priority for assets to be costed
- By commodity, region, theme
- Define key asset metrics from structured, unstructured, inferred and document search (OCR, Machine Learning, Search or other)
- Develop a database/API for asset inputs to Sherpa cost model
- Further integration of assets into Sherpa cost model
Operations
- Work with Software development team to improve data ingestion from providers
- Develop delivery mechanisms to clients (APIs, XLS, Chatbot, etc)
- Identify data gaps based on Sherpa cost model requirements
- Evaluate data collection process and metrics
- Support retaining and winning new customers of the asset database
Minimum Skills / Qualifications:
- 10+ years in a mining or geology field, including industry analysis
- Undergraduate degree in a science or engineering field
- Entrepreneurial mind set and a self-starter attitude
- Willingness to try new approaches in an unstructured environment
- Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) skills
- Excellent data skills and attention to detail
- Strong writing and interpersonal skills
Location: Flexible. The role offers the option to work remotely, or in a hybrid arrangement depending on candidate preference and business needs.
